DARING TO DRIVE - Manal Al-Sharif

Daring to Drive is Manal Al-Sharif's memoir of growing up in Mecca and becoming a global figure for women's rights in Saudi Arabia. A former computer security engineer, Al-Sharif filmed herself driving a car in 2011 in defiance of the kingdom's ban on women driving, an act that led to her arrest and imprisonment and sparked the Women2Drive campaign. Winner of the 2018 UN Human Rights Prize and named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People, Al-Sharif recounts her coming of age in a deeply patriarchal society and her fight for equality, resilience and female solidarity in the face of hardship. Published by Simon and Schuster UK (2018), paperback, 304 pages.
