A New York Times bestseller: superheroes, but make it vicious. Two former best friends turned ruthless enemies, each armed with extraordinary powers, are on a collision course for revenge, in V.E. Schwab's gritty, genre-bending tale of ambition and betrayal.
New York Times bestseller. A gritty, comic-book-style tale of ambition, jealousy, and superpowers.
Victor and Eli began as college roommates — two brilliant, arrogant, lonely young men who recognized the same sharp ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared obsession with adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural phenomena leads them to a startling theory: under the right conditions, a person could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their research moves from theory to experiment, everything goes catastrophically wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to hunt down his former best friend turned enemy, helped by a quiet young girl whose unassuming nature hides a devastating power. Meanwhile, Eli has made it his mission to eliminate every other superpowered person he can find — except for the enigmatic, unbreakable woman at his side. Armed with terrifying power on both sides, and driven by old wounds of betrayal and loss, the two former friends are on a collision course for revenge, in a world where gaining powers doesn't make anyone a hero.
Vicious (Villains, Book 1), by V.E. Schwab, published by Titan Books, paperback, 352 pages.
