A mind-bending YA thriller: two teenagers, a generation apart, race to change the past before a single bullet decides both their futures.
Esso Adenon, sixteen, is just trying to survive a brutal week in South London — dodging expulsion, a volatile gang rivalry, and the grief of losing his father. Then an accident flings him into the Upper World, a realm beyond space and time where he glimpses fragments of the past and the future. What he sees there is both a gift and a warning: unless he can rewrite what is coming, the people he loves most will not survive it.
Fifteen years on, football prodigy Rhia is about to lose everything she has built. A stranger who claims to understand the physics of time travel offers her a way back — a chance to save the parents she never had the chance to know. As her path converges with Esso's across the decades, the two must master the secrets of the Upper World before a single bullet, fired long ago, finishes what it started.
Blending the gritty realism of Peckham's streets with a mind-bending science-fiction premise, Femi Fadugba's acclaimed debut was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize and is being adapted for Netflix starring Daniel Kaluuya. Fadugba studied physics at Oxford University and Quantum Computing as a Thouron Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
