Chess Story is a short but powerful psychological novella that explores obsession, isolation, and the human mind under extreme pressure.

The story takes place on a ship traveling from New York to Buenos Aires, where passengers encounter Mirko Czentovic, a world chess champion known for his cold and mechanical style. During the journey, a mysterious man known as Dr. B challenges him to a match.

As the games unfold, Dr. B reveals his past: he was imprisoned by the Nazis and kept in complete isolation. To survive mentally, he stole a book of chess games and began playing against himself, eventually becoming obsessed.
